Wood Work.
Lathe work and cutting boards in honey locust and walnut.
Honey Locust has a very lively grain that can best be described as fiery with its range of color from white to deep red. I found the contrast between the bright honey locust and the dark walnut to be very attractive. The combination and the the availability of the two materials spurred a series of lathe turnings and cutting boards. All of these turnings were finished with organic bees wax so as to be food safe.

The technical challenge with the lathe turnings was that honey locust has a very course grain and walnut has a fairly fine grain. With the two different woods laminated together the surface finish would vary when the same cutting speed and feed was used so a little more sanding was due in order to achieve an acceptable surface finish.
